Your Character
Name: Wanda Frank
Age: 17
Played By: Katie McGrath
Power: Wanda has the ability to manipulate probability via her ‘hexes’ (often manifesting physically as ‘hex spheres’ or ‘hex bolts’. These hexes are relatively short range and are limited to her line of sight. Casting a hex requires a gesture and concentration and although the gestures are largely a focus for said concentration, and are not always guaranteed to work despite this precision, especially if she’s tired or using her powers extensively. If she overtaxes herself or overextends her powers, her hexes can backfire, working against her or undoing previous hexes. When she was younger, the hexes were unconscious on her part and would happen automatically whenever she made a particular gesture, regardless of her intent and would only manifest ‘bad luck’ effects. Once she gained some semblance of control they now work mostly when she wants them to and are not limited to negative effects. However, if she is exhausted or upset unconscious hexes are again a possibility. Once she gains full control she can use her hexes to light flammable objects, contain or remove air from a particular volume, deflect objects, stop the momentum of projectiles, open doors, explode objects, create force fields and deflect magical attacks. The effects are varied but almost always detrimental to opponents. Right now she is only able to light flammable objects, deflect objects and open doors. The force fields are... iffy. Sometimes she can create a strong one, and other times it’s weak or non-existent. Exploding objects she can do... but it’s not always on PURPOSE. Again, if she is extremely tired or distracted sometimes things... go awry.

The POTENTIAL Wanda has yet unrealised is something slightly different. She has within her the power to alter reality. She has only tried to do this once thus far, and it wasn’t conscious at all. She instinctively tried to do it when the Sentinel took her, but she had been fighting and was exhausted and it didn’t work. Or perhaps it did, because that was how she met her twin.

History: Wanda was adopted and raised by Robert Frank aka WHIZZER. He was deceived into believing that she was the daughter of his wife, who had died in childbirth. In reality she has a twin brother, and was the daughter of Erik Lehnsherr and Magda (who had instructed the midwife to find her children safe homes). Believing the lie he was told, WANTING to believe it was true, Robert took the girl and moved to England, raising her as Wanda Frank. Wanda thrived growing up there, and Robert Frank was a wonderful father, albeit gone quite often at times. He made sure she was extremely well educated, and let her pursue pretty much any avenue of study that caught her interest. She learned to speak Russian, as well as Czech, French, Serbian, and Italian. She even learned to play the hammered dulcimer, as well. She wanted to learn how to play a different instrument from the norm. No violin or piano for her! Wanda took up painting, though it’s more for fun than anything else. Though she is decently skilled at it; at portraits and landscapes at least. She refuses to paint fruit anymore, though. She did enough of that in class. She found a great love of literature on the moors of England, devouring anything and everything she could get her hands on. Another thing that caught her interest was astronomy; there was many a night she would climb on the roof of their home and just lie and watch the sky. On her 13th birthday Robert gave her books and her favourite gifts of all, a telescope, a set of paint brushes, and a small hammered dulcimer.

Discovering that she was a mutant was a surprise (her powers manifested when she was 11), but it wasn’t difficult, not having WHIZZER as her father. He accepted her abilities when they manifested as easily as he had accepted his own, and encouraged her to develop and hone her gift in the safety of their home. He instructed her to keep it a secret, otherwise, the rest of their town might not be as accepting.

It was during one of those times when Robert was gone that Wanda was forced to flee from a mob when she used her powers to protect herself and accidentally caused a fire that injured a couple people and burned down a building. She didn’t even have time to leave her father a note, though she did manage to grab the gifts from her father as she fled. While he was gone Robert had discovered that Wanda had a brother, by the name of Pietro Maximoff. He returned home to tell her, only to find her gone.

Wanda fled to the States, where she used her ability to manipulate probability to earn enough money to support herself and keep moving. She didn’t feel she could stop running, not with how things had ended in her hometown.

It was while she was on the run in America that she met Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye. She had gotten into a spot of trouble, and was trying to avoid using her abilities in order to avoid notice. In the end she couldn’t avoid it this time, and caught Barton’s eye when she did. He lent a hand, and from there they struck up something of a friendship. He taught her some acrobatics, as well as fencing, hand to hand combat and how to use bow and arrow; though she was a far cry from being as skilled as he was. He gave her a bow and quiver he’d had specifically crafted just for her. He helped her learn to incorporate her abilities into her fighting.

They became very close friends, and often found themselves crossing paths, whether by accident or purposefully. Eventually a relationship developed between the two, despite the slight age difference. She was actually meeting him for dinner when everything went... wrong. Hawkeye was there when she was taken by a Sentinel, and tried to stop them. The last she saw of him was his being knocked into a brick wall as she was carried off, dropping her bow in the process.

That was how she met him. Pietro Maximoff, another mutant kidnapped by the Sentinels. Wanda saw him, and she KNEW. She wasn’t sure what, exactly, it was she knew, but there was an undeniable connection between them. And being kidnapped by military robots is a bonding experience, regardless.

Personality: Wanda is... many, many things. She’s sarcastic as hell, though she will sometimes endeavour to keep it a little in check if she’s trying to be polite or respectful. Which, granted, isn’t as often as it probably should be. She uses language and wit as a defence, and she is rather skilled at their use. She’s also very... guarded, after what happened with her powers at home. There are two, maybe three people that she is very close to, that she has let through her walls. Those are: her father, obviously (Robert, not Erik; she doesn’t know that Erik is her biological father yet), Hawkeye, and Pietro, for reasons she cannot fathom and doesn’t quite consciously know yet. It can be difficult for someone to gain her trust, but once gained she will go to hell and back for them. Family is extremely important to her; it tears her up that she had to leave without even saying goodbye to Robert. She writes a lot of letters to him but never ends up sending them. She’s afraid he’ll be disappointed in her.

She’s been trying to find out what happened to Hawkeye, if he survived the fight with the Sentinel. He did, and has been trying to find her ever since, but as of yet they have not reconnected. She misses him.

Wanda is fairly decent at hiding her emotions from most everyone. The important ones, anyway. Again, the people she trusts are the ones she lets see beneath the façade. That’s not to say that other people can’t or don’t see. She just makes an effort sometimes in the hopes that they don’t.

She gets along well enough with others a lot of the time, even if she has to make an effort to do so. She has little tolerance for stupidity, and has no qualms about calling people out on it. Unless she is trying to be respectful, in which case she will swallow her pointed jibes. Or word it slightly more... politely.

Wanda can swear like a sailor in multiple languages, if she feels there’s a need. She tries not to, because she feels it sounds a bit... uncouth. But sometimes a curse word or five is needed. She has a temper. OH, does she have a temper. But fortunate for all, it has a very, VERY long fuse. But once lit... a BOOM is almost inevitable. A BOOM of some kind, anyway.

She’s extremely hard working, even if she does come off as a bit... wild and intense at times. She also quite intelligent, and gifted with something of an eidetic memory, which comes in quite handy. Thanks to her training with Hawkeye (and a friend or two of his) she is in damn good shape, and very athletic.

Wanda is proud of being a mutant; Robert raised her to be proud of who she was, even if she had to hide it from the outside world. He never wanted her to feel ashamed for who she is and what she can do.

Her favourite cereal is Quisp. It’s like Cap’n Crunch without the mouth cutting.

Roleplay Sample: Wanda frowned at the phone as she hung up. So far she hadn’t been able to find out anything. No one had heard ANYTHING. She still didn’t know if Clint was alive... or dead. She refused to believe he was anything other than alive and well. And probably pissed off and looking for her.

He had to be.

Tears burned at her eyes, and she clenched her fist angrily. With a flash of light, the painting on the wall lit on fire and exploded. Startled, Wanda spun to face the smouldering ruins of what had once been a painting of a hillside. Thankfully it had been HER painting of a hillside, so nothing of import had been lost.

“Fuck,” she muttered under her breath, putting out the embers with the practiced ease of someone who had done this far too often to count. There’s no point in crying, she told herself firmly. He’s FINE. He can take care of himself. That didn’t stop hot tears from trickling silently down her cheeks.

“I just won’t stop until I find him,” she announced to the room at large, picking up the phone again and dialling another number she knew by heart. Maybe Steve had heard something. If nothing else he would let her know if he heard anything after they spoke. Sooner or later she’d find him... or he’d find her.
